Nostalgia (noun) – a longing to go back to one’s home, hometown , or homeland.

As we relocate we are nostalgic, we will miss the cozy winter nights by our fireplaces, our spacious storage and built-in closets.

But most of all, we will miss this unique neighborhood. The Andersonville area is a walker’s paradise!  We are walkers!  We love to walk down and around Clark Street!   We love to walk to the lakefront!

Andersonville Area with its’ small town feel and its’ “mom and pop” type businesses will draw us back.  Are there “watchmen apartments” above the storefronts?  We don’t know, but we do know that a lot of the shopkeepers live near their stores.

It  feels like a small town within the big city.   Always a lot of organized events:  dessert crawl, farmers markets, green week, arts weekend, wine walk, etc.

Specific things we will miss the most:

·         Making a spur of the moment decision to dine out, many choices  within a short walk ( Turkish, Italian, Swedish, Sushi, Korean, Persian, Mexican, French, Middle Eastern, Thai, Colombian, African, even American)

·         Raven Theatre (6157 Clark Street, 7 blocks or so north) – local theatre, great ensemble, free parking lot, very reasonable subscriptions (includes priority seating and a complementary concession snack!)

·         Farmer’s Markets

·         Snappy Car Wash

·         Swedish Bakery

·         GreenSky (absolutely favorite store, most interesting shopkeeper, buy soaps here with a frequent buyer card)

·         Yak Thai restaurant next to M Henry (favorite dish: Crispy Tofu Salad)

As the winds blow and the temperature drops, we dream of leisurely sitting at the lakefront cafe on a fabulous summer day enjoying a glass of wine (Waterfront Café, 6219 N. Sheridan Rd.)

Or, strolling down Clark Street in the warm weather and deciding to have a romantic dinner at a sidewalk café!

Hope you will enjoy and venture out into our neighborhood, you might find a surprise!
