Chicago Home Partner Presents: 10 Wines Under 10 Dollars

by Amanda on August 16, 2010

Wine Budget Wines Chicago Home Partner Real EstateIt is so very hard to believe that it is almost the middle of August.  Where is our favorite time of year going?  Soon enough, my letters will begin with the “enjoying changing of leaves and cooling of temperatures”.

BUT NOT that soon… Chicagoans will put up a good fight before admitting that summer is a thing of the past.  There are still too many evenings ahead of us that are meant to be filled with nights at Ravinia, appetizers on the deck and, of course our favorite, dinner on the patio at your favorite BYOB restaurant.

That’s why this month, we are reaching into our vault for an “oldie, but goodie”.  Those that have been members of the CHP client appreciation program for years now will fondly remember…

Chicago Home Partner’s Top 10 Wines Under $10

Never fear, since we are experts in real estate and NOT wine, we have consulted the experts at Binny’s Beverage Depot.  They have help to collaborate to give you the best of the best.   We have enclosed a list of our favorites that made our “best of” list.

In addition, if you have any interest in both wine and saving money, I would recommend signing up for the Binny’s Rewards Program.  Your FREE membership gives you access to exclusive sales on selected items during the month, 2-5% rebates on eligible wines purchases and discounts on events and wine tastings.  (Did I mention that it’s free??)  More information can be found by following this link to Binny’s Beverage Depot.
Binny’s has local Chicago locations across the city including:  Downtown, South Loop, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Hyde Park, and River North.

Keep this list handy for next month’s mailing.  We don’t want to ruin the surprise, but can tell you that the wine list will be very helpful!!

On that note, get out there, save some money, drink some good wine and enjoy the rest of summer.

2009 – Tamari Torrontes Reserva

2008 – Dominio de Eguren Protocolo Blanco

“Greenish gold. Subtle aromas of mint, lemon and orange, with a hint of honeysuckle. Dry, understated and focused, offering clean citrus and melon flavors and slow-building sweetness. Finishes dry and brisk, with an echo of lemon. As usual, this is an outstanding value.”

2008 – Quinta do Alqueve Fernao Pires

“Fragrant and crisp, with fine depth for a wine in this price range. This is a white grape I have found to be quite attractive in Portugal, providing some fruity wines with some structure at very reasonable prices. This is a good effort by this fine Ribatejo winery, surprisingly solid and dense for its price range, yet bright and crisp, with an intense, succulent finish. Many inexpensive whites are light and laced with green, but this is a cut above. It may hold a little longer, but I’d be conservative and drink it young for best results to get it at peak. This is a very nice value. ”

Sparkling

Domaine Ste Michelle Blanc de Blancs

“Distinctively spicy, this Washington bubbly is jazzy on on the palate, delivering pear, black pepper and yeast notes that persist on the creamy finish. A great value at this price and score.”

Rose

2009 – Muga Rosado

“Complex, highly aromatic bouquet of pink grapefruit, strawberry, rhubarb and white flowers, with a strong mineral undertone. Bright, racy red berry flavors are given a tangy edge by citrus zest and white pepper, with the mineral quality adding lift and cut. Finishes suave, spicy and long, with excellent thrust.”

Red

2008 – d’Arenberg The Stump Jump Red

“Light in texture and fragrant with floral, berry and beet aromas, this plays its fresh flavors against refined tannins, lingering effortlessly. Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre.”

2007 – Las Rocas Garnacha

2007 – Chateau Mourgues du Gres Costieres de Nimes les Galets Rouges

“Another extraordinary value from the 2007 vintage. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of blackberries, white flowers, and charcoal. Full-bodied, and oozing with fruit and glycerin, good acidity, freshness, and focus, this is a lovely red to consume over the next 2-4 years.” Reviewed by Robert Parker.

2007 – Ercavio Tempranillo Roble La Mancha

“An expressive nose of cedar, earth notes, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Thick, dense, and opulent on the palate, it has gobs of savory black fruit, licorice and spice notes, enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, and a lengthy finish. It totally over-delivers for its humble price. This is one to buy by the case.”

2007 – Querceto Chianti Classico

“A full-bodied, well-structured version, with crushed black fruit, flowers and oak on the nose and palate, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, controlled finish. Tempting now, but will improve with a little time in bottle.”
