Finding a place to call home seemed like such an overwhelming process. But when we finally found it, we knew the penthouse at 1158 W. Armitage was going to be the place for us. Nestled in the heart of Lincoln Park, the Hedman lofts building had everything we could hope for.

What initially drew us to our future home was the size of the building, (14 owners, not too big or too small), and the character of the unit inside, (historically a factory, each unit offers a unique layout and is not a cookie-cutter floor plan). Hedman Lofts is one of a few historic buildings sprinkled throughout the ranch triangle neighborhood, so we knew we weren’t moving into a home that looked like every other.

After reading some tips for finding a good roofing company, we decided to just fully renovate the home from top to bottom and enjoyed combining vintage loft details, (soaring concrete ceilings, exposed brick walls, tons of windows & expansive rooms), with all of the modern appointments of a luxury condo. It’s amazing to see such a beautiful skyline view from our home – especially considering it’s such a small boutique building.  We feel like it is the constant backdrop of the home – like a piece of art, only better.  It’s a treat to walk in the door and call our house, home.

Then, of course, there is the location. Ranch Triangle is a small pocket of Lincoln Park with encompassing  borders of Racine Avenue, Armitage Avenue, North Avenue, the Chicago River, and Halsted Street. We enjoy walking around the area, particularly during summer festival season and found that our home was just a short stroll from just about everything we need on a daily basis. It’s also great to sit on either of the patios and enjoy an evening of grilling and people watching.

Being located only a few short blocks East of Clybourn, everything one needs is convenient. From shopping on Armitage at boutiques like Margret O’Leary, Tie Bar and Lori’s, to standbys like Bonobos and Lululemon, everything is just steps from home. Even everyday shops like Home Depot, Crate & Barrel, and Arhaus are located nearby.

Our local school system is outstanding for any family with children. We are near great schools for every age including Goddard school, Oscar Mayer Elementary, Lincoln Park High School and even DePaul. On top of that, there is also very easy access to transportation including the Clybourn Metra stop, brown and purple L stations, and 90/94.

We personally think that we’re in an eaters paradise and are situated within walking distance of great neighborhood eating establishments such as Tarantino’s, Burger & Butcher, Homeslice, Budlong, Summer House, Jeni’s, Floriole. For those that would rather cook themselves, there’s no shortage of fine grocers including the flagship Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Treasure Island, Mariano’s and Foxtrot.

Last but not least, we fell in love with the true neighborhood vibe and nearby green space of Oz Park, the 606 and all the attractions that Lincoln Park has to offer. In summer we love to go to the Saturday farmer’s market in Lincoln Park, ride our bikes along the lakefront and take our dog to the dog park.

We will truly miss our home in Hedman Lofts, and hope the next owners of our home will embrace both it and the neighborhood the way that we have.
