Andersonville

Andersonville was once a mecca for Swedish and Norwegian immigrants, and it retains a sense of small-town, community-focused comfort alongside some thoroughly modern shops, bars, and restaurants. The quant atmosphere of small towns and all the amenities of the city make an appealing mix for those who are fortunate enough to own Andersonville real estate.

Things to Do in Andersonville

Several festivals taking place throughout the year help strength bonds within the community. Some of the most popular events include:

  • Midsommarfest: Held each June, this traditional Scandinavian festival treats around 40,000 people to two days of music, dancing and food.
  • Wine Walk: Two routes take you through a number of pouring locations, with an impressive variety of wines to enjoy.
  • Andersonville Dessert Crawl: Anyone with a sweet tooth will spend all year waiting for the Andersonville Dessert Crawl, which showcases the best that the neighborhood’s bakeries have to offer.

Finish your day at one of the area’s eccentric venues. The Quest Theatre Ensemble creates original productions using large-scale puppets, and often performs during outdoor events, while Mary’s Attic offers an active evening full of karaoke, giant Jenga, and giant Connect Four.

Top Restaurants and Bars

In spite of its small size, Andersonville boasts a strong selection of restaurants to fulfil the wishes of each and every taste bud. Exotic delicacies can be found at Ora, where a western spin is given to traditional sushi dishes and Japanese ingredients are blended with American favorites.  Alternatively, you’ll enjoy mouth-watering New American cuisine such as a lamb burger and meaty mussels at Vincent, or southern-style comfort food at Big Jones.

If you’re in the mood for a drink once you’ve finished your meal, try one of Andersonville’s many renowned bars, such as:

  • Joie De Vine: Enjoy a glass of wine or ice-cold beer on a warm summer’s evening from the outdoor patio or head inside to experiment with a mixologist and come up with something unique.
  • Marty’s Martini Bar: Rethinking bar food with bites like blue cheese stuffed olives and offering a wide range of cocktails, Marty’s is one of Andersonville’s premier spots.
  • Simon’s Tavern: For a good drink, a juke box jam-packed with old-time favorites, and a friendly atmosphere, this is the perfect venue in which to kick back.
